As the light changes, so does the atmosphere at Dixter.
Mulberry tree blossom, spectacular!

Kent and East Sussex have been blessed with a variety of spectacular gardens, often world famous for being the archetypal 'English Garden'. People come from far and wide to visit them, Europe, America, China and beyond - we are so lucky to have a number of them literally on our doorstep. As I write these notes, outside the wind is blowing and it carries with it flurries of sleet and snow so it's nice to think about something we can look forward to!

Great Dixter House & Gardens at Northiam are one of our favourite places to explore. The gardens change week to week through the seasons and there are always different things to see and enjoy. Expert horticulturalists who are always willing to advise you, a gift shop, specialist nursery and cafe to relax with some tea and cake. Different events, tours and lectures can be attended, check out www.greatdixter.co.uk for more information, we had great fun this year at the Dachshund Day!

Sissinghurst Castle & Gardens, is another garden that many of our guests come specifically to visit, grade one listed and one of the most famous gardens in England. Near Cranbrook in Kent, half an hour from the farm, the gardens are owned and run by the National Trust, perhaps the most famous and influential feature of Sissinghurst is the White Garden, whilst the 16th century tower and historic oast houses take one back to a bygone era.Even if you are not a National Trust member, Scotney Castle is another fine example not to be missed.

There isn't time to go into detail with all the gardens nearby but Leeds Castle & Gardens, Merriments, Pashley Manor, Emmetts, Penshurst Place & Gardens, Groombridge Place & Gardens, Great Comp, Hever Castle & Gardens, Ightham Moat, Chartwell House & Gardens, Nymans and Batemans are all well worth a visit, to mention just a few. April is a lovely time to visit, when the crowds are less intense and the gardens are often in that inspirational first flush of Spring and if you can't fit everything in, come back and see us again later in the year! All the best to all our guests, past, present and future and wishing you all a happy and healthy 2018.
