  • The Kent and East Sussex Railway
This delightful line regularly hosts steam engines, including Thomas the Tank, which puff through to Bodiam station where you can alight and walk to Bodiam Castle ( N.T). There are the turrets to explore plus carp to feed in the moat, completing the day with a tea or coffee in the shop.
  • Dungeness Lighthouse
Dungeness is a surreal unspoilt shingle bank projecting into the sea and full of wild flowers and skylarks in the spring where you can climb the lightouse to see for miles.
  • Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway
This is a minature steam railway with semi-open carriages which takes adults and children alike from several coastal stations out to Dungeness and the lightouse. Cafe at the terminus!
  • RSPB - Dungeness
This is a world class migrant bird site for unusual sightings. A shop and observatory with telescopes serves coffee. There are several hides.
  • Port Lympne Zoo
An extensive open air wild animal reservation on the slopes of old sea cliffs where you can follow the trails on foot or trailer to see lions and rhinos etc.
  • Rye Heritage Centre
Apart from helpful tourist tips, this houses a large minature model of ancient Rye Town accompanied by an impressive Sound and Light show which is a pleasant way to learn some of the history of Rye. It also has a gallery of old Penny Slot machines which you can actually play on. Audio guides around the town can be hired.
  • Smugglers Adventure
High on the cliffs in the Caves at Hastings is this tale of smugglers brought to life by moving models. Down below are the fishing boats on the Old Stade, a photographers paradise.
  • Dungeness National Nature Reserve
A renowned site of scientific interests, you can wander for acres. It regularly hosts instructive outings for children and adults such as moth trapping.
  • Lydd Museum
It's surprising how much can be packed in here including the old town fire engine! Lydd is one of the old marsh towns having a large church built in the days when wool from Romney Sheep brought prosperity
