About Us

Great Prawls Farm : We are 3rd generation farmers on this pretty sheep farm on the old sea cliffs of the 'Isle of Oxney' and we LOVE every nook and cranny of it! The current owners Roger and Pat have made it a lifetime's work to care for the farm sympathetically, planting thousands of  hedgerow saplings by hand and maintaining ponds and the wildlife therein.

The RSPB volounteers have recorded many spieces especially some on the endangered list, and Kent Wildlife has found plants and insects too that are rare.

You are welcome to enjoy the extensive views and partake of the peace and tranquillity. The sheep of course are always with us ranging from the traditional 'Romney Marsh' breed famous for their wool to various crossbreeds for their luscious meat. There are lambs aplenty in the Spring and if you're lucky you may see the grand shearing in Summer.

The farm is situated 10 minutes drive midway between the medieval hill town of Rye & historic Tenterden 'Jewel of the Weald,' both very visitable in themselves. Both have antique shops, art galleries, museums, restaurants and country pubs.Nearer home The Ferry Inn with restraurant is just over 1 mile from us and the Black Lion in Appledore 3 miles.

We are only 15 mins from the sandy beaches of Camber for fun or an energetic walk .Rye and Tenterden have indoor leisure swimming pools for children if necessary.

Nearby are things to do;

  • RSPB bird sanctuaries,
  • RyeWildlife Reserve at Rye Harbour
  • Smugglers caves at Hastings,
  • Steam trains through Tenterden
  • Miniature coastal railway New Romney to Dungeness
  • Port Lymnpe Zoo and Chapel Down Vineyard.
  • Golf, fishing and riding are available nearby.

Because we are on the border of Kent and Sussex there is easy access to National Trust properties and gardens in either direction.

  • 5 minutes drive Ellen Terry's N.T. 'Smallhythe Place'.
  • 10 mins drive N.T. 'Lamb House' in Rye
  • 20 minutes N.T. Sissinghurst Gardens, Great Dixter Gardens and moated N.T. Bodiam Castle.
  • 40 mins away are N.T.Scotney Castle, N.T.Chartwell, N.T. Batemans, Leeds Castle, Canterbury Cathedral, Dover castle and Battle Abbey.

From Ashford Rail station you can sightsee in London in 38 mins on the fast link or bring your passport to take the Channel Tunnel to Paris or the day ferry to Calais.

We are proud of our cottages and take a personal interest in their supervision. There are many little extras included which that we hope will make your holiday good value and that much more comfortable. Both are single storey cottages and thus suitable for anyone a little disabled. Information can be forwarded in larger text if required.

Out of high season short break holidays are also available and these can be very flexible.
